Patronizing the Saint

Often I am in a situation with someone who knows I'm a Christian, but doesn't know exactly how to converse with me, as if I require some special vocabulary for communication. Believe me, I don't. Recently I was having my hair cut and the barber and I were having a normal discussion. I'm sure He was trying to make pertinent conversation with me, his customer, as the discussion turned to disaster relief in Haiti. He said "I don't think there is much we can really do. You know, it's like the Bible says, 'You can give a man a fish, but if you teach him to fish, well there you go'" I'm still trying to find that reference in my New King James.
